About Us

Our History

The Association of Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) was formed in 1972 and is the world’s oldest and largest non-profit organization devoted exclusively to unmanned systems. The Association was started in Dayton, Ohio, as the National Association for Remotely Piloted Vehicles.

  • 1973 – The first Annual Symposium and Exhibition are held.
  • 1980 – The Association moves to Washington, DC, and changes its name to Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems
  • 1996 - “International” is added to name
  • 2004 – AUVSI Launches the International Opportunities Program
